Industry Awards, Presentation by City Council President and King County Marine Division highlight 2024 Seattle Maritime Day Breakfast
More than 225 maritime industry leaders filled the Seattle Marriott Waterfront Hotel Grand Ballroom on Friday, May 10, for the annual Seattle Maritime Day Breakfast, which was presented by the Seattle Propeller Club and the Port of Seattle.
Highlighting the breakfast was the presentation of annual maritime industry awards. This year’s winners were:
Puget Sound Maritime Achievement Award: Sarah Scherer, Transportation Institute
Seattle Propeller Club Public Official of the Year Award: Nicole Teutschel, Office of U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell
Educator of the Year: Capt. Al Bruce, Seattle Sea Scouts
Seattle Propeller Club Award of Merit: Crew of the MV Doc Maynard, King County Marine Division
The audience also heard keynote remarks from Seattle City Council President Sara Nelson, Deputy King County Executive Shannon Braddock, King County Marine Director Terry Federer, and Port of Seattle by Executive Director Steve Metruck.

What an amazing and inspiring 71st Seattle Maritime Day Breakfast to celebrate the importance of our local maritime industry!
Huge thanks to Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell for his inspiring keynote address and commitment to the future of the industry. We also really appreciated the comments by Port of Seattle Commission President Sam Cho and Stephanie Bowman, Maritime Industry Director for the State of Washington.
The highlight of the Breakfast was the presentation of the Maritime Achievement Award (person of the year) to Warren Aakervik, Ballard Oil, and the presentation of the Public Official of the Year Award to Tremain Holloway, principal, Maritime High School.
