Stories of the Sea Postponed to Sept. 24

 

During this unprecedented and uncertain time, the Seattle Propeller Club and the Port of Seattle have decided to postpone this May’s Stories of the Sea. We are planning to hold this year’s event in conjunction with the Fishermen’s Fall Festival from 7-10 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Highliner Public House at Fishermen’s Terminal. The Fall Festival is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, at Fishermen’s Terminal. More details to come.

Stories of the Sea, a raucous night dedicated to song, poetry and storytelling about the epic adventures of commercial fishing and the maritime industry. The evening will feature 14 performers, with cash prizes awarded to the top participants.

 

2020 Cash Prizes!

First Place – Spoken Word Story:        $150                               First Place - Story Song:           $100    

Second Place – Spoken Word Story:   $100                                Second Place – Story Song:    $  50

Third Place Spoken Word Story:          $  50                                Third Place – Story Song:        $  25

Best Overall Presentation/Stage Presence: $100

Honorable Mention:  $25

 

Each performer will have 10 minutes and we are limited to 14 storytellers. Performers may combine a Spoken Word and Song Story in their performance. Artists can perform one story or multiple stories. Each story by an artist during a performance will be judged individually and artists can win multiple cash prizes based on their performance. Performers will be judged based on if it is an Original Story, Creativity, Presentation & Stage Presence, Imagery, Poetic/literary Content, If You Have Worked in the Maritime Industry, and Nautical Relevance. Judging will be industry leaders and media members.

Putting the Sea in Seattle:                  2019 Stories of the Sea

With a full field of 13 storytellers from Oregon to Canada and a packed house, the 10th Annual Stories of the Sea was a raucous night dedicated to song, poetry and storytelling about the epic adventures of commercial fishing and the maritime industry,

 

The 2019 Seattle Maritime Festival Stories of the Sea, which was sponsored by National Fisherman magazine and Pacific Marine Expo, was held on Thursday, May 10, at the Highliner Public House at Fishermen’s Terminal.

 

Each performer had 10 minutes to perform. Each story (spoken word or song) by an artist during a performance was judged individually and artists could win multiple cash prizes based on their performance. Performers were judged based on if it is an Original Story, Creativity, Presentation & Stage Presence, Imagery, Poetic/literary Content, If You Have Worked in the Maritime Industry, and Nautical Relevance. Representatives of the maritime industry will judge the performers

 

A total of $600 in prizes were awarded.
